BSIS Mandatory Skills Training

The 32 hours California requires after your card is issued.

Once BSIS issues your guard card, the clock starts. California requires 32 hours of skills training — 16 hours in your first 30 days and 16 more within six months. This is all 32 hours, in nine modules, delivered fully online and on your schedule.

The nine modules

Every module is BSIS-aligned, anchored in California statute, and ends with a written assessment and a verifiable certificate. All nine modules are live — start any one on any device and your progress saves automatically as you go.

California requires 32 hours of skills training for guards registered on or after July 1, 2004: 16 hours within 30 days of registration and 16 hours within six months (BPC §7583.6, 16 CCR §643). The split above is a recommended order — your employer may select a different mix from the BSIS topic menu. Final compliance decisions are made by BSIS; always verify your specific deadlines with BSIS.

The complete elective catalog

Beyond the core modules above, OnlineGuardCards now offers the full BSIS elective menu. Mix any of these to complete your 16 elective hours — each is self-paced, statute-anchored, and ends with a certificate.
